Kano Hisbah Begins Medical Screening for 3,000 Couples Ahead of Mass Wedding
The Kano State Hisbah Board has commenced medical screening for 3,000 prospective couples as part of preparations for an upcoming government-sponsored mass wedding programme in the state.
The exercise, which covers 1,500 men and 1,500 women selected for the initiative, is aimed at assessing the health status of participants before their marriages are formally conducted.
According to the board, the screening includes standard medical tests such as checks for HIV/AIDS, hepatitis, genotype compatibility, and drug use, in line with requirements for participation in the programme.
The initiative is being implemented under the Kano State Government and forms part of ongoing social welfare interventions targeting vulnerable groups, including widows, divorcees, and low-income unmarried individuals.
Officials explained that participation in the medical screening is mandatory, and only those who complete the process will proceed to the wedding stage.
The mass wedding programme is one of the stateโs recurring social support initiatives designed to assist less-privileged residents in formalising marriages with government-backed support.
Further details on the date of the wedding ceremony are expected to be announced after the completion of the screening exercise.
