TCN, Transport Ministry Partner to Connect Kano Railway Infrastructure to National Grid

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has partnered with the Federal Ministry of Transportation to connect the Kano Railway Station and other railway operational facilities to the national electricity grid as part of efforts to improve rail infrastructure and ensure reliable power supply.

The partnership was reinforced during a strategic stakeholders’ meeting held at the TCN Kano Regional Headquarters on July 7, where officials reviewed plans for the proposed grid connection for railway infrastructure in Kano.

According to TCN, the project is expected to provide stable and uninterrupted electricity to the Kano Railway Station and associated operational facilities, improving the efficiency and reliability of rail services in the state.

The company said the initiative aligns with the Federal Government’s broader efforts to strengthen critical transport infrastructure through improved electricity supply, noting that dependable power is essential for modern railway operations.

Stakeholders at the meeting reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring the successful execution of the project, expressing confidence that the grid connection would enhance railway operations and improve service delivery for passengers and freight transportation.

The meeting was attended by representatives of the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) Kano Region, the Federal Ministry of Transportation, Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO), project consultants, Team Nigeria and the project contractor, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC).

The proposed connection is expected to strengthen rail infrastructure in Kano while supporting the Federal Government’s ongoing investment in the country’s transportation network.
