PCN Arrests Five in Kano Over Illegal Pharmaceutical Operations
The Pharmacy Council of Nigeria (PCN) has arrested five persons for allegedly operating illegal pharmaceutical premises in restricted markets within Kano State, as part of ongoing enforcement efforts against unlicensed drug distribution.
The council said the arrests were carried out during an inspection and enforcement operation in parts of the state, where some outlets were found to be operating in violation of existing regulations governing the sale and distribution of medicines.
According to PCN officials, three of the suspects were apprehended for breaking official seals previously placed on illegal drug outlets, while two others were arrested for continuing operations in unauthorised premises.
The council stressed that the affected markets remain prohibited locations for the sale of medicines, warning that such activities pose serious risks to public health and safety.
It added that operating pharmaceutical businesses without approval, or tampering with sealed premises, constitutes a violation of the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria Act and would attract prosecution.
The enforcement team reaffirmed its commitment to sanitising the pharmaceutical sector, stating that all offenders would be prosecuted in accordance with the law.
PCN also urged members of the public to purchase medicines only from licensed and regulated facilities, where proper standards of safety, quality control, and professional oversight are guaranteed.
The council said it would continue working with security agencies and relevant stakeholders to curb illegal pharmaceutical activities across the country.
