Kano Government Addresses Rising Public Concerns Over Resurgence of Achaba Operations

The Kano State Government has acknowledged rising concerns from residents over the increasing presence of commercial motorcycle operators (Achaba) across several parts of the state.

According to the government, verified intelligence reports have confirmed the spread of Achaba activities in various quarters within Kano metropolis. Similar reports indicate that nearby and border communities have also witnessed increased movements of motorcycle operators, despite the long-standing ban on the practice.

The government further disclosed that it has received information about the infiltration of unknown individuals operating motorcycles as commercial riders in some communities within the metropolis.

In response, the state reiterated its commitment to protecting the lives and property of citizens, noting that appropriate security measures are already being implemented across all 44 Local Government Areas.

Authorities assured the public that security agencies are fully engaged and have received all necessary support, with the government prepared to provide additional assistance to ensure effective operations.

While acknowledging citizens’ recommendations for enhanced monitoring — including increased surveillance at entry and exit points — the government stated that these suggestions are currently under review as part of a broader security assessment.

The Kano State Government expressed appreciation for the vigilance and cooperation of residents and urged the public to remain alert, report suspicious activities, and continue supporting security agencies.

It reaffirmed Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s commitment to addressing security-related challenges and strengthening collaboration with local governments, traditional institutions, community leaders, security agencies, and citizens to restore peace and stability across the state.
