Kano Hisbah Bans Commercial Movie Distribution on Phones at Charging Centres
The Kano State Hisbah Board has banned the commercial downloading and distribution of films through mobile phones at phone charging centres across the state’s 44 local government areas.
The directive, which takes immediate effect, was announced on Thursday by the Deputy Commander-General of the board, Dr. Mujahideen Aminuddeen.
According to Aminuddeen, the decision followed complaints from parents who alleged that some operators of phone charging centres were distributing uncensored films and explicit content to children.
He said the practice was exposing minors to materials capable of undermining their moral upbringing and violating age-based content classifications.
The deputy commander-general also alleged that many of the films being distributed were not approved by the relevant censorship authorities and were not protected by copyright.
He added that some operators, under the guise of sharing religious content, also distributed materials considered harmful to children’s moral development.
Aminuddeen said films are categorised according to age suitability, but some operators ignored those classifications by making content intended for adults available to minors.
He disclosed that Hisbah personnel had been deployed across all 44 local government areas of Kano State to enforce compliance with the directive.
The board warned that anyone found engaging in the prohibited business would be prosecuted in accordance with the laws of Kano State.
