Kano, Jigawa Customs Generate ₦63.07bn Revenue in Six Months

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Kano/Jigawa Area Command, generated ₦63.07 billion in revenue between January and June 2026, representing a 7.4 per cent increase over the ₦58.3 billion recorded during the corresponding period in 2025.

The Acting Area Controller of the command, Deputy Comptroller Usman Umar Adamu, disclosed this while briefing journalists on the command’s activities for the first half of the 2026 fiscal year at the Customs House in Bompai, Kano.

Adamu said the revenue growth was achieved despite a decline in cargo throughput, attributing the performance to improved operational strategies, stronger enforcement measures and enhanced compliance by stakeholders.

According to him, the Kano Free Trade Zone generated more than ₦26 billion during the first half of 2026, exceeding the total revenue recorded by the zone throughout the 2025 fiscal year by about ₦4 billion.

He also revealed that the command recovered about ₦3 billion through efforts to curb the abuse of transit procedures, adding that operatives intercepted 14 containers linked to diversion and violations of customs transit regulations.

The acting controller said the intercepted containers were involved in breaches of Sections 45, 64 and 235 of the Nigeria Customs Service Act 2023, noting that investigations and enforcement actions were ongoing.

Adamu reaffirmed the command’s commitment to strengthening revenue generation while intensifying anti-smuggling operations and ensuring compliance with customs regulations across Kano and Jigawa states.
