Kano Government Halts Tree Felling at State Television Premises
The Kano State Government has ordered the immediate suspension of tree felling activities at the premises of the state-owned television station pending further review.
The Commissioner for Environment and Climate Change, Dr. Dahir Muhammad Hashim, announced the decision following concerns raised over the ongoing removal of trees within the facility.
According to the commissioner, the government intervened to assess the situation and ensure that environmental regulations and sustainability considerations are fully observed before any further action is taken.
He stressed that the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf remains committed to environmental protection, urban greening, and the preservation of natural resources across the state.
Dr. Hashim noted that trees play a vital role in mitigating the effects of climate change, improving air quality, and enhancing the urban environment, adding that government agencies and institutions must align their activities with established environmental standards.
The commissioner assured residents that the government would continue to monitor developments and take necessary measures to safeguard the environment while balancing developmental needs.
