Kano Anti-Graft Agency Reclaims 371 Encroached Grazing Reserves, Cattle Routes

The Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC) says it has reclaimed 371 grazing reserves and cattle routes allegedly encroached upon across different parts of the state as part of efforts to restore designated lands for livestock development.

Chairman of the commission, Comrade Sa’idu Yahaya, disclosed this during a stakeholders’ engagement on the protection of grazing reserves and cattle routes in Kano.

According to him, the recovered lands were previously occupied or converted to other uses, contrary to their original purpose. He said the exercise is aimed at preserving grazing corridors, reducing conflicts between farmers and herders, and supporting sustainable livestock production.

Yahaya noted that the commission is working with relevant government agencies, traditional institutions and community leaders to safeguard the reclaimed lands from further encroachment.

He stressed that the restoration of grazing reserves and cattle routes aligns with the state government’s efforts to promote agricultural development, strengthen food security and improve peaceful coexistence among rural communities.

The commission chairman reiterated that public lands designated for specific purposes must be protected and utilized in line with government policies and existing regulations.

He assured stakeholders that the commission would continue monitoring public assets and enforcing compliance to prevent illegal occupation of government lands.
