Kano Executive Council Approves ₦8.53bn for Roads, Health, Education, Water and Other Projects
The Kano State Executive Council has approved a total of ₦8,528,203,682.58 for the execution of projects and programmes across key sectors, following its 37th meeting held on January 16, 2026, at Malam Aminu Kano House, the Governor’s Lodge, Asokoro, Abuja.
The approvals were reached after extensive deliberations on governance issues affecting various sectors, with the aim of improving public welfare and accelerating socio-economic development across the state.
In the area of land administration, the council approved ₦251,909,218.00 for the payment of compensation for properties affected by the construction of a five-kilometre dualised road in Bagwai Local Government Area.
For infrastructure development under the Ministry of Works, the council approved ₦148,817,782.65 for the construction of an orphanage hostel at Nassarawa Children’s Home. It also approved ₦147,246,264.47 for clearance and the construction of an access road at Farin Ruwa–Yan Kwadi village in Shanono Local Government Area.
Additional approvals include ₦660,312,147.08 for the construction of reinforced concrete drainage and interlocking tiles at Ayagi-Aisami in Bakin Ruwa Ward, Dala Local Government Area, and ₦1,705,212,281.42 for the construction of a two-coat surface dressed road from Chiromawa to Garun Babba in Garun Malam Local Government Area.
In the health sector, the council approved ₦187,777,114.78 for the construction of an additional office complex and extension of the perimeter fence at the Primary Healthcare Board. It also approved ₦677,594,206.08 for the reconstruction, rehabilitation and renovation of Rogo General Hospital, which was recently affected by a fire outbreak, under Phase I of the project.
The council further approved ₦520,091,158.13 for the procurement of a new CT scan machine for Muhammad Abdullahi Wase Teaching Hospital.
Under the Ministry of Education, approval was granted for the general renovation of Government Junior Secondary School, Tatsawarki, in Kumbotso Local Government Area, at the cost of ₦113,830,427.84.
For agricultural development, the council approved ₦830,232,588.00 as compensation for farmlands affected by the construction of five small earth dams across five selected local government areas.
In the environment sector, ₦176,225,669.13 was approved for the construction of the Arewa Knot and a multi-tiered fountain at Alfurqan and Baban Gwari roundabouts, as part of efforts to enhance the beautification of Kano in line with mega-city standards.
The Ministry of Water Resources received approval of ₦3,108,954,825.00 for the supply of non-ferrous aluminium sulphate (alum) for water treatment for a six-month period in 2026.
On policy matters, the council considered a report on the death of a female patient who underwent surgery at Abubakar Imam Urology Centre, during which a surgical instrument was reportedly left in her abdomen. The council expressed dismay over the incident, described it as a grave act of negligence, and assured that the ongoing investigation would be pursued to its logical conclusion, with appropriate sanctions applied in line with the law. Condolences were also extended to the family of the deceased.
The council also acknowledged the importance of the Ajaokuta–Kaduna–Kano (AKK) Gas Pipeline Project and approved the phased development of the AKK Industrial Layout at Tamburawa, with Phase I to focus on basic infrastructure and perimeter fencing.
In addition, the council noted persistent structural challenges at the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) Orientation Camp in Karaye and approved comprehensive enhancement of the camp’s facilities to safeguard the welfare, security and wellbeing of corps members serving in the state.
