Gov. Yusuf Commissions Kano Neighbourhood Watch Corps, Deploys 2,000 Operatives
Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has commissioned the Kano State Neighbourhood Watch Corps, deploying 2,000 operatives across the state to strengthen grassroots security and intelligence gathering.
The commissioning took place during a passing-out parade held on Tuesday at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano.
The newly established corps comprises 2,000 personnel deployed across the 44 local government areas of the state, including 130 female and 1,870 male operatives.
Governor Yusuf said the corps has been equipped to tackle criminal activities such as banditry, drug abuse, thuggery, and other threats to public safety in both urban and rural communities.
As part of the exercise, the governor also rolled out 88 Hilux operational vehicles and 440 motorcycles to support effective patrol, rapid response, and wider operational coverage.
Addressing members of the corps, Governor Yusuf urged them to uphold discipline, honesty, and dedication, stressing that their primary responsibility is to serve and protect their immediate communities.
He reaffirmed that security remains a top priority of his administration, noting that peace and stability are essential for economic growth, education, and social development. The governor further assured continued investment in security infrastructure, personnel welfare, and collaboration with conventional security agencies.
Speaking at the event, Katsina State Governor, Malam Umar Dikko Radda, commended the initiative and pledged cooperation with Kano State in tackling criminal activities, particularly in border areas affected by cross-border crimes. He emphasized the importance of sustained inter-state collaboration in addressing insecurity in the North-West.
The event was attended by former Kano State Governor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso; deputy governors of Zamfara, Jigawa, and Sokoto states; the Emir of Kano, Malam Muhammadu Sunusi II; and the Chairman of the Senate Committee on National Security and Intelligence, Senator Yahaya Abdullahi.
Other attendees included senior government officials, traditional rulers, security chiefs, and stakeholders from within and outside Kano State.
