Kano Governor Lays Foundation Stone for Gaya Polytechnic to Spur Regional Development

Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has laid the foundation stone for the construction of the Gaya Polytechnic, a key project aimed at accelerating educational and economic development within the Gaya Emirate.

The announcement was made in a statement issued on Thursday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.

According to the statement, Governor Yusuf performed the foundation-laying ceremony on Wednesday at the proposed permanent site of the new institution, located on the outskirts of Gaya.

Governor Yusuf described the Polytechnic as a future hub for technical incubation, vocational excellence, and professional skills development. He said the institution would equip young people with essential expertise for today’s global economy, covering fields such as engineering technology, applied sciences, environmental studies, and business.

The Governor explained that establishing the Polytechnic in Gaya is a deliberate move to honour the emirate’s long-standing legacy of scholarship and learning. He noted that Gaya has historically been a centre of Islamic knowledge, producing distinguished scholars across generations.

He urged residents to take ownership of the institution by protecting its facilities and supporting its smooth take-off, stressing that the project will generate employment, attract investment, and drive growth in Gaya and surrounding communities. He added that thousands of direct and indirect job opportunities are expected to emerge, alongside training that will shape the future of the youth and strengthen development across the state.

Speaking at the event, Deputy Governor and Commissioner for Higher Education, Comrade Aminu Abdulsalam Gwarzo, commended the Governor’s foresight in siting the Polytechnic in Gaya and disclosed that admission into the institution will commence soon.

The Emir of Gaya, Alhaji Aliyu Ibrahim Abdulkadir, also praised the administration for executing several impactful projects across the emirate.

Earlier in his remarks, Chairman of the Implementation Committee and former Vice Chancellor of Northwest University, Prof. Atiku Kurawa, said the committee has worked diligently to ensure the new Polytechnic is positioned to deliver quality and recognised education.
