Kano Government Responds to Rising Achaba Operations, Assures Strengthened Security Measures

The Kano State Government has responded to rising public concerns over the re-emergence of commercial motorcycle operations (Achaba) across several parts of the state, despite the long-standing ban on the practice.

According to credible intelligence reports received by the government, Achaba activities have resurfaced in various communities within Kano metropolis. Some neighbouring and border communities have also recorded noticeable increases in Achaba operations. Reports additionally indicate that unknown individuals have infiltrated the state, operating motorcycles under the guise of commercial riders.

In a statement, the government emphasized that it remains committed to safeguarding the lives and property of citizens, noting that coordinated security measures are already being deployed across all 44 Local Government Areas.

The state assured residents that security agencies are fully on top of the situation. It also confirmed that the government has provided the necessary support to enhance effective operations and remains willing to offer additional assistance to strengthen the agencies’ response capacity.

While acknowledging public recommendations for intensified monitoring—particularly surveillance at all entry and exit points—the government revealed that these suggestions are currently under review as part of a broader security strategy.

The Kano State Government expressed appreciation to residents for their vigilance, cooperation, and trust in the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf. Citizens were encouraged to remain alert, report suspicious activities, and continue collaborating with security agencies to collectively address emerging threats.

The government reaffirmed that Governor Yusuf is fully committed to tackling all security challenges while working closely with local governments, traditional institutions, community leaders, security agencies, and civic groups to restore and maintain lasting security, peace, and stability across the state.
