NIPR President Lauds Gov. Abba Kabir Yusuf for People-Focused Initiatives in Kano

The President of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Dr. Ike Neliaku, has commended Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, for his exceptional commitment to people-oriented projects and inclusive governance.

The commendation came during an inspection visit by the NIPR Governing Council on Tuesday to assess the governor’s suitability for investiture as a Patron of the Institute.

According to a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mustapha Muhammad, on Wednesday, the NIPR delegation toured several key project sites that reflect the administration’s dedication to transparency, development, and citizen welfare.

The NIPR, a professional body responsible for regulating public relations practice in Nigeria, promotes high ethical standards and professional excellence across both public and private sectors.

Highlighting the Governor’s Projects

During the inspection, conducted in collaboration with the Director-General, Media and Publicity, Government House Kano, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the NIPR delegation visited major infrastructure and community development sites, including:

  • Dan Agundi Flyover: Dr. Neliaku expressed satisfaction with the project’s progress and pledged to attend its commissioning.
  • Bulbula Erosion Control Project (Nassarawa LGA): Designed to combat environmental degradation and improve mobility.
  • Kwankwasiyya City Estate: Over 500 housing units built to modern standards, ensuring access to quality urban living.
  • Gwarzo Garment Centre: Empowering over 100 youths with vocational training in tailoring and garment production.
  • Challawa/Goje Dama Power Project: A near-completion 6MW plant expected to boost electricity supply statewide.

Commendation and Observations

Dr. Neliaku emphasized that Governor Yusuf’s approach to development goes beyond physical infrastructure — focusing also on social inclusion and community empowerment.

“We are immensely impressed by the governor’s dedication to projects that directly impact citizens and make them active participants in the state’s progress,” he said.

He added that these efforts align with NIPR’s values of transparency, accountability, and citizen engagement — core principles of effective public relations.

The NIPR Council will deliberate on the findings of the visit before officially investing the governor as a Patron of the Institute.
