Tiga Hydropower Plant Restored to Full 10MW Capacity After Maintenance Works

The Tiga Hydropower Plant in Kano State has returned to full operational capacity of 10 megawatts (MW) following the completion of maintenance works and corrections to previously identified design defects.

The development was announced by the management of Kano Hydro and Energy Development Company, which said the restoration followed extensive technical overhauls carried out on key components of the facility.

According to the company, the rehabilitation works included major servicing of the plantโ€™s systems, particularly the 8MW turbine unit, which has now been fully restored.

With the completion of the repairs, the hydropower plant is currently operating at its full installed capacity of 10MW.

The company said the rehabilitation forms part of ongoing efforts to strengthen electricity generation capacity and improve power supply within the state.

Management of the company also noted that the restoration aligns with the infrastructure development agenda of the Kano State Government under Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, particularly in the area of energy and public utilities.

The company added that the improved performance of the hydropower facility is expected to contribute to energy supply for communities and economic activities within the state.

The Tiga Dam hydropower facility is among the strategic power assets managed by the Kano State Government as part of its efforts to support sustainable energy generation.

The statement was signed by Ado Ibrahim Umar Doguwa, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Kano Hydro and Energy Development Company.
