Kano Govt Approves N54.7bn for Key Development Projects and Security Strengthening
The Kano Executive Council Approves N54.7bn as part of a renewed push for infrastructure growth, service delivery, and statewide development. The approval came during the Council’s 34th meeting held at the Government House, Kano, where members endorsed funding for roads, schools, healthcare facilities, water supply, housing projects and security upgrades.
A major focus of the meeting was the expansion of road networks across several local government areas. The Council also directed the Ministry of Works to immediately submit a revised Bill of Quantities to continue the Gwarzo–Tsaure–Tsanyawa Road Project, reaffirming the administration’s commitment to improving transportation and regional connectivity.
Education and health received strong attention. Renovation of schools, procurement of furniture for multiple LGAs, and ongoing work for the new Gaya Polytechnic were approved. The health sector also benefited through funding for facility upgrades, medical equipment, and the fourth-quarter routine immunization programme.
Security featured prominently in Council deliberations. Members expressed serious concern over recent inflammatory remarks by former Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje and Deputy Senate President Barau I. Jibrin, who claimed that Kano was exposed to banditry and proposed recruiting 12,000 individuals into a religious police outfit. The Council described the statements as inciting and noted that bandits infiltrated some border communities less than 48 hours after the remarks, raising questions about possible connections.
As a result, the Council called for an immediate investigation into the former Governor’s actions and urged public figures to avoid comments capable of destabilizing the state. It reassured residents of Kano’s commitment to peace, stability, and the protection of lives and property.
The Council also commended the committee overseeing occupancy compliance in Kwankwasiyya and Amana Cities. With many allottees already complying with government directives, the December 31 deadline remains unchanged.
The meeting concluded with several national and professional bodies presenting Awards of Excellence to the Governor in recognition of leadership, service, and contributions to governance.
