Gov. Yusuf Moves to Acquire Drones, Boost Logistics to Tackle Border Insecurity

Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has announced plans to acquire drones and strengthen logistics support for security agencies as part of intensified efforts to curb rising insecurity along the Kano–Katsina border communities.

The governor made the disclosure on Tuesday while assessing the preparedness of the Joint Task Force (JTF) at their operational bases in Tsanyawa and Shanono Local Government Areas following recent bandit attacks in the region. His visit was confirmed in a statement issued on Wednesday by his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.

Governor Yusuf said the introduction of surveillance drones and rapid-response tools would significantly enhance intelligence gathering, early warning, and real-time monitoring of bandit movements across vulnerable border settlements.

He called on residents of the affected communities to support the ongoing security operations by providing useful information that would guide security agencies in tracking criminal elements.

The governor also revealed that after briefing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on the security situation, the President immediately responded positively to the requests submitted by the state government. He added that this support would reinforce ongoing operations aimed at restoring peace in the region.

Governor Yusuf urged JTF personnel to intensify efforts to rescue kidnapped residents of Tsanyawa and Shanono. “Many innocent lives were taken, and several people were forced into the bush. By God’s grace, those kidnapped will be brought back to their families,” he assured.

He noted that the recent wave of coordinated attacks is unprecedented in Kano State and described it as an “alien security challenge” that the government is confronting with full collaboration from security agencies.

During the assessment visit, the governor met with affected families, offered condolences, and assured them that everything possible was being done to secure the safe return of kidnapped residents. Recent reports indicate that about five persons were abducted in Tsanyawa and ten in Shanono, with one woman tragically losing her life.

Governor Yusuf reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of security personnel and ensuring they receive the necessary support to restore peace and stability in the region.
