Gov Yusuf Signs ₦1.477 Trillion 2026 Budget into Law, Assures Full Implementation

Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has signed into law the ₦1.477 trillion amended 2026 Appropriation Bill, assuring residents that his administration will ensure full implementation of the budget to improve living standards across the state.

Speaking shortly after assenting to the bill, Governor Yusuf urged members of his cabinet to intensify their support for the administration and demonstrate renewed commitment to the government’s development agenda.

The governor disclosed that the state’s 2025 budget recorded over 80 per cent performance, noting significant progress in capital project execution, as well as key interventions in the education and health sectors.

According to him, the amended 2026 budget reflects his administration’s strong focus on infrastructure development and efficient service delivery. He explained that the Kano State House of Assembly reviewed the original budget proposal upward from ₦1.3 trillion to ₦1.477 trillion after detailed scrutiny.

Governor Yusuf pledged that all appropriated funds would be judiciously utilised, stressing that the benefits of government policies and programmes would be felt across all parts of the state.

He also revealed plans by the state government to immortalise two members of the Kano State House of Assembly who died in the line of duty, describing their deaths as a painful loss to the state.

“The amended budget captures critical infrastructural development needs, and we are fully prepared to implement it in the best interest of the people of Kano State,” the governor said.

Earlier, the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Ismail Falgore, said lawmakers engaged extensively with ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs), as well as other key stakeholders, before passing the appropriation bill.

Falgore explained that while the initial budget proposal stood at ₦1.3 trillion, it was increased to ₦1.477 trillion after careful consideration. He added that recurrent expenditure accounts for 29 per cent of the budget, while capital expenditure makes up 71 per cent.

The Speaker expressed confidence that effective implementation of the amended budget would enhance socio-economic development and improve the welfare of residents of Kano State.
