Gov. Yusuf Lauds Dangote for Dedicating 25% of His Wealth to Charity
Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has praised Alhaji Aliko Dangote for dedicating 25% of his wealth to charity, describing the gesture as a historic boost to human development and a model for philanthropic leadership in Africa.
The commendation was contained in a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, on Thursday.
Governor Yusuf made the remarks at an event held at Eko Hotels in Lagos, which attracted top national stakeholders, including the Vice President; the governors of Kano, Gombe, Nasarawa, and Borno; and the two Ministers of Education.
At the event, the Aliko Dangote Foundation announced a ₦100 billion education support package targeting 155,000 students across Nigeria. The Foundation also unveiled a ten-year vision to spend up to ₦1 trillion to reach 1,325,000 beneficiaries, with a major focus on out-of-school children.
Governor Yusuf welcomed the initiative, noting that the emphasis on access, teacher training, and infrastructure aligns with Kano’s education reforms under the state of emergency declared in the sector.
He highlighted ongoing achievements in Kano’s education sector, including the recruitment of over 13,000 teachers, major school rehabilitation, reduction of overcrowded classrooms, distribution of desks, and support for students through scholarships and tuition fee reductions.
The governor also noted the state’s efforts to conduct a statewide survey to identify out-of-school children and integrate Qur’anic schools into learning centres.
He commended the Foundation’s decision to allocate ₦15 billion for upgrading the state-owned Aliko Dangote University, Wudil, to international standards, stating that the intervention addresses real needs, supports state priorities, and strengthens education partnerships.
Governor Yusuf reaffirmed Kano State’s broader vision for education, which includes ensuring that every school is functional, every child is enrolled, every student is engaged, every teacher is dedicated, and every parent is supportive, with government serving as an active investor in human capital development.
He further outlined actions taken and ongoing plans by the government: recruitment of over 13,000 teachers, hundreds of overseas scholarships, a 50% reduction in tuition fees for state university students, rehabilitation of 1,358 secondary and technical schools and 5,200 primary schools, installation of 250 boreholes and 820 toilet units, and the construction of 28,264 classrooms and 300 laboratories.
He expressed optimism for continued partnership and collaboration with the Aliko Dangote Foundation to achieve these goals.
