Abba Gida-Gida Infrastructure Scorecard (2023–2026): ₦346bn Projects Transform Kano

The Abba Gida-Gida Infrastructure Scorecard (2023-2026)

The landscape of Kano State is undergoing a monumental transformation as Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration accelerates its “Urban Renewal and Rural Connectivity” agenda. With the signing of the record-breaking ₦1.477 Trillion 2026 Budget the largest in Northern Nigeria the administration has officially designated 2026 as the “Year of Infrastructure and Consolidation”.

Governor Abba has allocated a staggering ₦346 Billion (25%) of the 2026 budget specifically to infrastructure.

Interchanges and Strategic Roads

Central to the urban facelift are the flagship Dan Agundi and Tal’udu Interchange projects. These multi-layer flyovers and underpasses, awarded at a combined cost of approximately ₦27 Billion, are nearing completion.

Dan Agundi: A three-layer interchange bridge designed to permanently de-congest one of Kano’s busiest junctions.

Tal’udu: A cloverleaf overpass bridge aimed at seamless traffic flow.

Metropolitan Roads Rehabilitation & Expansion: The administration has been renovating and expanding tens of the staye’s metropolitan roads and has also committed ₦24.7 Billion to the expansion of the Katsina Road stretching from Baban Gwari Roundabout to MilTara complete with five reinforced pedestrian bridges to ensure citizen safety.

True to the “Gida-Gida” philosophy, the administration has commenced the revival of the 5KM road projects in each of the 44 Local Government Areas (LGAs). Many of these projects, which had been abandoned for nearly a decade, are now being commissioned, linking rural farmers to metropolitan markets and stimulating local economies.

Infrastructure under Governor Yusuf extends beyond concrete and asphalt. The state has witnessed a massive rollout of solar-powered streetlights across metropolitan roads and the newly constructed 5KM rural paths, doubling as a security measure and an aesthetic upgrade.

Community Security: To complement physical infrastructure, the Governor recently inaugurated the Kano State Neighbourhood Watch Corps, deploying 2,000 personnel, 88 Hilux patrol vehicles, and 440 motorcycles to ensure that new infrastructure remains safe for public use.

Health and Social Infrastructure

The “Scorecard of Impact” also highlights the holistic renovation of Primary Healthcare Centres (PHCs) across the state. In early 2026, the State Executive Council approved over ₦8.5 Billion for various projects, including the reconstruction of the fire-damaged Rogo General Hospital and the expansion of the Primary Healthcare Board’s facilities.
